30 session renewal required for the mask; the pen just needs a new battery, 1 Feb. 2018

My review covers both the mask and the targeted treatment pen. First the mask:

This is a mask that uses light therapy to treat mild to moderate (but not severe) acne. The mask has built-in eye protection and fits in place with a spectacle-style arrangement, so feels comfortable to wear for each 10-minute treatment time. An activator supplies the power and is battery operated so there is no need to be near a plug, which adds to convenience although the activator has a life span of only 30 sessions before it stops operating and must be replaced.

It can be used as frequently as daily and I noticed a subtle difference after only one session with improvements continuing thereafter. It is comfortable to wear and the built-in protection means you can keep eyes open in use but the lights are bright and I preferred to keep my eyes closed for the session duration, which was actually quite relaxing. I didn’t feel anything but there was a new gadget smell to contend with...

Certainly worth a go ..., 15 Feb. 2018

I was very dubious about giving this to my fifteen year old son to help treat his acne, believing that it may just be a bit of a gimmick. Still as it was a Neutrogena product I felt it was worth a go.

This little pen like machine is basically a 'light therapy' treatment for spots. It works by generating red and blue lights that gently filters through the skin, to target acne causing bacteria.

I feel that this particular product is aimed more at someone with an occurrence of a few acne spots as against someone with a complete breakout.

It is very easy to use … Remove the plastic cap, place the head of the pen lightly onto the acne spot and then press the on button. The pen will then emit red and blue lights onto the spot area and after two minutes the light will automatically turn off. Repeat on each spot that you wish to treat three times every day.

Review for the infrared light treatment for acne, 3 Feb. 2018

This review is for the light pen unit only. The reviews on this listing seem to be divided between several items in this acne treatment range by Nutrogena.

The pen is around the size of an average pen and runs off a single AA battery. You remove the plastic tab to use it, place the end of the item over your freshly washed and dried skin over the place you wish to teat and hold the button for a second. It will start working and last for exactly 2 minutes. The end of the pen should be in light contact with your skin, there should not be a gap between the plastic edging and your skin.

They recommend you use this three times a day on each area you wish to treat. At first I thought this was a bit time consuming and as an adult with hormonal acne, there's quite a few bits to treat! But it soon became apparent that the infrared light works and within two treatments there was a visible reduction in swelling and inflammation of the area.
