The latest hairdressing wisdom has it that oils penetrate and nourish damaged hair, whilst silicone serums merely coat it for a temporary effect. The two oils that seem to be recommended most frequently are extra virgin coconut oil (EVCO) and argan oil (which claims to be the active ingredient in this product, although it's halfway down the ingredient list so I question how much argan oil it really contains).
I'm not sure I believe the marketing pseudo-science of the oils vs. silicones debate, but like all women with unruly hair, I will try anything that promises to tame it. Unfortunately, I found EVCO (which comes as a solid lump that melts with body heat) to be very messy to use. It's also difficult to judge the right amount for styling, and therefore I think EVCO is better suited to use as a pre-washing hair conditioning mask. Neat argan oil, meanwhile, has an intolerably cloying smell that quickly gave me a headache.
