I have been using Braun's Silk Epil epilators for about 15 years now, and in that time have only owned 3 models (the 3rd is still fine but I wanted to try this out when it was offered for free!) So despite the initial cost, which may seem high, these units REALLY do last.
ADVANTAGES to epilating in general are:
* Hair stays away for a long time, personally I find I have very little hair if I epilate about once a month.
* Painless when you get used to it, but always bearable.
* Economical, never need another wax strip or disposable razor
* Never again will you have to "grow" your hair like you do for waxing.
* Hair doesn't feel 'prickly' when it re-grows but becomes softer and finer.
* Skin remains smooth for a long time, especially when combined with exfoliating.
* No razor burn or irritation. (You may get red bumps for an hour or so, like waxing)

I, naturally, asked my wife to use this product and tell me how it performed to write this review.
First impressions were great. The epilator looks stylish with lots of little add-ons for different purposes (shaving, trimming, massage head, etc). The little bag to keep all the bits safe looks very cheaply made though, which is a shame.
Moving on to performance, the first time my wife used it was in the shower, which did seem to reduce the pain of epilating, especially if it is the first time, but it took a lot longer than other reviewers stated. The wider head doesn't seem to make a difference regarding on how fast it takes to epilate. She also noticed that there were some areas where she had to go over and over again to make sure they were hair-free, which contradicts the statement about more precise epilating. Hmm, not sure I agree with the majority opinion here. End of the day manufacturers never make the “perfect” product for if they did they would surely go out of business as someone, somewhere would add a feature or two and very soon the original product would be woefully out of date. To compensate we are bombarded year on year with the “latest”, the “ground-breaking”, the best ever etc, etc and all too often (as is the case with the Silk9) at a hefty price inflation to its predecessor.
Fact is we all play to this as everyone wants the latest and best but in terms of achieving such an accolade the new product should be a lot better than the original and sadly from this point of view the Silk9 is not.
