I'm a bit straightener-mad to be honest. I've tried many straighteners in my time, and must admit that none are as good as GHD, but some come close! And when you see the price difference, there's no contest. These straighteners are great. They heat up quickly. The display goes red as they heat and green when ready to use. They glide through hair easily without catching. You can press the ion button and add extra shine to your hair, the device makes a faint crackling sound when this fucntion is on. You can set your own heat setting to match your hair type. There's also a button to press to blast any awkward areas, it gives a temporary blast of intense heat to sort out that kink in your hair that takes forever to tame! The device itself is comfortable and easy to hold, and not too heavy. When you turn them off, again the display changes to red, and this turns off when they are fully cool. This straightener looks good and with the digital display seems very modern and up to date. The cord is a reasonable length. It is very quick to heat up and the temperature display shows when it reaches the temperature you want. I really like that it switches off automatically as it is so easy to leave straighteners on. There is a range of temperatures which are easy to select and it is good that your last used settings are saved meaning you can use straight away without resetting once you have chosen your preference. If you are having problems with one area of hair the 'c' boost button will boost temperature for a short time to enable you to fix it to your satisfaction. There is also a satin ions button but it is difficult to judge how effective this is.I note that it can also be used for loose curls and waves but haven't tried that. I was disappointed that at straightener of this quality did not come with stand and bag. It does boast that it is cool to touch but I haven't been able...

The Braun Satin Hair Straighteners are a well made product and heat up quickly. The controls are self explanatory and easy to use, and the design of the control face is pleasant enough. However, my wife tested these for several days - she has thick hair, and wavy - and found that they had no effect of her hair whatsoever. She would run the unit through her hair 10, 15 times and it would not straighten, even after holding the heat to the hair for long periods and making slower movements through the hair. Something that is well made and looks good is no good if it doesn't do what it says on the tin. I suspect that if you have very fine or reasonably straight hair these will probably do the job, but anything else and I suggest you go for GHDs.

Now, as usual the box for this product tries to blind you with science. What we have here are 'satin ions', which apparently balance the moisture levels in the hair usually lost when using standard straighteners. I can't comment on that...
