Simple shaver, 11 Nov. 2012

I bought this model a few years ago as a low cost simple shaver to replace a far more expensive one which fell apart after a relatively short time. My first shaver had been a Braun, very simple and lasted years until eventually the charger stopped working. So for the price and simplicity I went for the Series 1 190s again. Why you need anything more complicated I really don't understand. This one seems quieter than its predecessor (which was the same model). For me (I have a tough beard apparently)it gives a good shave. A full charge lasts about 2 weeks, and only takes about 15 minutes to fully charge. Let the shaver run right down before each re-charge. This will maximise the longevity of the charge. Cutter head can be blown out or washed. If you choose to wash it, oil the trimmer now & again, otherwise it will eventually stop working, and its difficult to get it going again. Bought this shaver after having bought Braun shavers all my adult life. It is nearly as good as my old shaver(a Braun Universal) but not quite. I think that is probably because the cutter block is not as long but it still gives a good shave. I like the idea that you have to push an on/off button to start the shaver and not a slider switch and the trimmer is excellent. Great quality build as ever by Braun and excellent value at £34.12p. I will be buying Braun again if needed.

Performance degraded by heavy Chrome plating on the "Smart Foil" and by short cutter in moving head., 3 Dec. 2015

I had a Braun Interface Excel 3770 since 2005 and was very happy with it. As foils are now expensive and difficult to source I bought this Series 1 190s-one as a standby and possible replacement. I wanted a simple single foil shaver. I put it to use immediately. The first charge lasted a full 14 days which was good but the shaver felt different, very smooth on my skin. The shave was adequate but there was no feeling that the skin had been scraped by a close shave. After the 14 daily shaves I put a new battery in my old shaver and used it again. I was amazed at the better shave that the old shaver gave me. I had got used to the 190s-one and would have been happy with it had I not tried the old shaver again. The problem with the 190s-one seems to be caused mainly by the foil. The foil has the "Smart Foil" hole pattern and is heavily Chrome plated on the skin side. The Chrome is very thick and slippery. There is very low friction between the foil and the skin so the shaver does...
