Sure there is a touch of nostalgia surrounding straight razors, unlike the modern "cassette" razor blade in which it has 5 blades and you simply throw them away when they go blunt, this straight razor from Dovo has been made with quality in mind (made in Germany) and features just 1 blade made from carbon steel and designed to last you years and years IF you look after it properly! Don't be fooled into thinking that shaving the old fashioned way will save you money as it won't but in stead it will offer you a far closer and accurate shave. When using a proper shaving soap or shaving cream the experience will only get better. Having said that you need to use the correct technique or you can potentially butcher your face so please ensure you do your research and above all take your time as the number one reason people cut themselves with straight razors is rushing and not paying due attention!! Advice for beginners (like me), 5 Sept. 2015

Great blade.

Rounded ends so more forgiving. This blade is carbon steel thus much easier to sharpen, unlike the steel blades. However the steel blades don't tend to rust like the carbon steel. You need to keep this blade dry at all times (after shave) or it becomes pitied (like mine has within the first month, but only because I did not make any effort to keep the blade dry!) The handle is plastic like most Cut Throat Razors. The blade is 3" long however most Leather Strops are only 2"wide. This is normal and you have to sharpen the blade with an X motion, going up and down about around 50 times on the leather bit, 25 times on the suede side and 10 on the cotton. This sounds a lot but will get it done in about a minute with practice. Depending on hair growth you will need to sharpen about once a week?month? Worth the effort!, 4 Jan. 2012

Having made the switch from over-prived cartridge "razors" to DE Safety Razors early last year, I have relished the numerous benefits of proper Wet Shaving. Last week, I took the plunge and bought my first Straight Razor.Dovo have a good reputation for producing quality razors and this seems well founded. The design of this razor is simple and functional, the weight is nice and as newbie to Straight Razor Shaving, I have found the length of the blade to be comfortable to use. The razor was supplied to me honed and shave ready and the process of stropping before and after each use only adds a minute of two to my morning routine.OK, I've had to learn a whole new shaving technique, but the results are worth it.
