Disappointment, 5 Jun. 2013

I am a great fan of Edwin Jagger equipment but this disappointed me. It is decent enough shaving soap which lathers well in the EJ shaving mug with badger brush and gives good skin protection too. My gripe is the complete lack of sandelwood scent and a virtual absence of any scent at all. EJ shaving cream has the same lovely smell as the matching and really nice aftershave balm so I will try a small spot of that shaving cream on the soap before lathering to try to get a bit of nice scented lather. This soap is extremely long lasting but sadly very very bland. I have not used many soaps as comparisons but I would say trumpers sandalwood is richer and more creamy but again very lightly scented, EJ Sandalwood cream is nicely and distinctively scented and efficient and effective too and Taylors cream is strongly scented and lovely in use.

Disappointing for me, 17 Feb. 2013

I ordered this soap recently after being blown away by the quality of Edwin Jagger gear. I had high expectations of it being a great product, and so many reviews I've read on shaving forums and sites say how amazing the scent is from the Sandalwood fragrance.... What fragrance?? I'm not even getting the slightest whiff of Sandalwood or anything else for that matter! Disappointment 1

I purchased this soap refill for use in the Edwin Jagger shaving bowl but the refills are too small and rattle around inside the bowl when you use a brush to lather up, not a biggie I know but these two items are supposed to be designed for use with one another Disappointment 2

Despite living in a very hard water area I found I could get a pretty good lather from this, it's quite creamy but notice it doesn't lubricate as well as other soaps I've used and I get a degree of drag as I shave. Also i have quite sensitive skin and despite being natural and paraben free I found shortly...

This soap lathers quickly using any badger brush and with some work it is as good as EJ shaving cream whilst being considerably cheaper. I have used mine in an EJ mug about 5 times and I can still read the writing on the soap; suggesting it'll last ages. I get 4 months out of an £11 tub of EJ cream and I expect this to last as long, so is definitely good value. I prefer the Sandlewood soap although the Seabuckthorn is less musty and more fruity; the Aloe doesn't have much of a scent really. EJ have just released two new soap scents: Limes and Pomegranate and Cooling Mentol. Neither are yet available on Amazon but worth keeping an eye out for the in the future, as EJ charge £3 for delivery on orders under £40.
