The Garnier Summer Body Moisturising Lotion Light is a very smooth and creamy moisturiser with a pleasant scent and the benefit of a subtle hint of tan, ideal for those of us with a fairer skin.
It is not greasy and seems to last well during the day, with the skin still feeling soft several hours after application. The tan is reasonably quick and is set after just a few minutes and does not suffer from the usual odd smell of stronger fake tanning systems.
Beware, unlike
moisturisers, it does not have any sun protection built-in.
While the tan does wash out if scrubbed hard enough, because it is subtle and not as pronounced in its effect as the more usual fake tan systems it is not noticeable as such. It is good for the occasional bare legs making them look that little bit more outdoors. It...

It has been years since I last used the Garnier Summer Body in Light although back then I had the spray version which I never really got the hang of for a streak free, all-over tan. I do prefer the lotion version and this one has been an overall pleasant experience to use. I always apply this after a shower and I have to say I was a little disappointed after the first application – the lotion is very easy to rub into the skin, is white in colour so there is the chance of missing a spot and it has a pleasant fragrance. I kept checking though and there was no noticeable colour change at all which is great if you don’t want a heavy and noticeable tan but a bit disappointing if you’re hoping for something.
Another slight negative is the fact that after a few hours it starts to lose that perfumed scent and develops that self tan scent so I feel the bedding has to be changed a lot more often even if there’s no colour transfer onto the sheets. That said...

If you want the feel or the look of a tanning suncream, but without the UV protection, you’re in luck! That’s what you’ll get in this bottle.
It feels barely distinguishable from suncream, especially when it comes to the smell- a smell I rather like, as it’s evocative of summer. It’s got the same cream-and-oil texture and colour. The moisturising effect is quite powerful, and also long-lasting. You don’t need to use much of it each time either. As a moisturiser I’d say it’s very nice indeed.
I didn’t notice much of a tanning effect, to be honest. I’m ghostly white as standard, and after putting this cream on, I still looked ghostly white but a tiny bit more oiled. The British summer has been particularly bad recently so it’s perhaps not been the most opportune time to test it, but I simply didn’t experience the bronzing or ‘orange hands’ effects that other reviewers have...
