I bought this for my husband because he has always loved "Vetiver" and I am always looking out for a fragrance with a vetiver base-note and have bought plenty over the past 35 years none of which met his requirements. When I found this by Guerlain I thought that my search had come to an end. When the bottle arrived we eagerly opened it and sprayed a good spritz onto my husband's arm. "What do you think?" I asked him, he paused and then blurted out "old ashtrays!". Great, £32.00 for old cigarette butts. He wasn't impressed but said he would use it as I had bought it for him. He tried it again when we were going out for lunch with friends and when we greeted our them, my friend hugged him and said "mmmm you smell nice". So all was not lost. I think like many Guerlain fragrances it is to be appreciated and enjoyed in the drydown, not the original spritz. Not as fresh as Adolfo Dominguez's Vetiver Hombre, 6 Aug. 2015

I'm a vetiver convert having recently fallen in love with Adolfo Dominguez's Vetiver Hombre. The Dominguez EDT is a similarly summery fragrance but, to cut a long story short, is fresher and longer lasting than the Guerlain.For whatever reason, this bottle lasts no time at all on me (perhaps 90 mins tops, regardless of how much is applied) and to add to the disappointment has very little sillage and virtually no discernible projection. Initially that brisk vetiver zing is obvious and as pleasant as ever, but the drydown has overtly darker, woodier undertones before quickly trailing off; by comparison, the Dominguez has you smelling like you've been tramping through the greenest, crispest, freshly cut pine forest grass - all day long.So where one gradually takes you indoors and disappears, the other is determined to keep you outside. I prefer the latter.
