As inexpensive Badger-hair brushes go, this is excellent value....eventually.

For anyone who hasn't bought a badger-hair before, the bad news is they tend to smell like damp dog if not washed through before use and so on receipt I headed for the bathroom soap-dish to give it a quick wash and thorough rinse (usually all that is required).

Not so this time!

At first I was somewhat dismayed to find the hair seemed to stick together into a thick rat's-tail when wet, rather than the bushy dome expected, but this was explained when some soap was added to the mix and a greasy tan-coloured foam resulted, alongside a pong of not so much "damp" as "dead" -dog!

My guess would have to be that the hair has not been thoroughly cleaned before use and both the tendency to clump and the smell are residual badger-gunk (skin-oils or whatever), but after the application of some of my daughter's shower-gel (please don't tell her) and some of my...

This is a really excellent brush at a price lower than your average Bristle brush. So far it's only lost a very few hairs - I lose more from my head every day than the brush has lost. It's made from pure Badger hair but feels as soft on the face as Silver tip. The brush whips up a thick creamy lather really quickly and produces enough to easily provide 3-4 passes of the razor.

The knot is very well produced and though the handle doesn't have the best finish in the world, it is perfectly acceptable. If you wet it properly before shaving, rinse & dry the hairs properly afterwards and place it hairs facing down in a stand to air, it should give years of good service.

One point though if you've never used a Badger hair brush before. No matter how much you spend on one, they all stink really strongly of wet dog the first few time you use them. The smell goes away after a week or two at the most and a couple of runs with hair shampoo followed by conditioner will not...

I bought this shave brush last month. It arrived last minute in a jiffy bag. While taking it out from the jiffy bag the brush part came apart from the handle so wasn't impressed. Applying wood glue and next day started to shave with the brush. Hairs started to come off the brush and haven't stopped since. The brush becomes heavy and takes time to lather properly using shave soap. After use the brush takes a day to completely dry and the hairs do not plume out like other true badger hair brushes I own. The bristles wilts to one side. Cheaper synthetic brushes from Wilkinson's work better so instead I use a genuine travel badger shave brush bought from Amazon which is miles better. I would advise all seekers of shaving brushes to research on Google about all types of shaving brushes. I felt let down by this product and really don't think its 100 percent badger and more paint brush bristle, hence the 1 rating.
