Simply Delightful - So Much better Than Canned Products, 28 Jun. 2016

Although I have a beard I still shave my neck and sides of face and have always preferred this kind of shaving product to canned varieties for several reasons, not least because of the environmental damage of canned products. The first thing to note about this product is that you will need a container of some kind and the clue to that is in the product description where they state clearly that “20 seconds in a Microwave fits it to any size shaving mug!”. I used a ramekin dish as you can see from the photos. I initially was not going to microwave it but then realised that it would collect water in the gaps and so I did in the end for 15 seconds. Ten minutes later it had solidified and was ready for a shave. Shaving with a proper brush and blade is a very relaxing ritual for me and always produces a cleaner more satisfying shave. At the ripe old age of 40 I had never tried good old fashioned shaving soap to shave with! So when I saw this I thought why not! It is blended with lavender oil, Shea butter and soy amongst other ingredients to make it a nice and smooth lather. You can use it in 2 ways, either with a shaving brush or it can be applied directly to warm wet skin ideally in the shower is what they recommend. Being a bit of. A purist a thought I'd buy a shaving set with a brush and a bowl to put the puck of soap in. What a great shave it makes it, while it obviously does the same job as your "out of the can" foam/gel this one has a far smoother soothing lather, it doesn't clog up the blades of your razor like the thick foam of the canned stuff does. You can make this as thick or as thin as you like because you are in control, the blades glide easily over your skin with this soap as it contains quite a few oils, coconut oil, palm oil and safflower oil as well as Shea butter.
