I used this mixed with Herbatint 5D (Light golden Chestnut).Pros: It covers grey very well, the colour is very natural looking, it smells OK. It is recommended by a French report as being the least toxic of permanent hair dyes, and it has no ammonia, parabens, resorcinol, toulene.Cons: It doesn't have much red in it, so the colour was almost a plain brown, and I found it to be slightly too dark. Although after 2 weeks it started to fade a bit, and it became slightly redder and lighter. It is awkward having to mix 2 colours together, as the bottles aren't clear and see through, so it's hard to measure out how much you need. It would have been better if the 2 colours had already been mixed together, or if the bottles were clear and see through, with measuring markers on the bottles. It has a lot of PPD in it (listed 6th in the ingredients), and has peroxide (2nd) - but all permanent dyes have these chemicals in.

I tried this product after chemotherapy ruined my hair and I couldn't use anything chemical. I ordered the wrong shade but it worked beautifully nevertheless. I have been delighted as the colour has remained the same for several weeks without fading.

Best 'No animal testing, horrible chemical hair dye i've tryed!', 24 Feb. 2011

I've been using Herbatint Black hair dye for a year now, and i find it is the best one i've used so far.

I will always try and buy any products which aren't tested on animals.

All the main hair dye brands in the main street shops are all tested on animals, and i won't be apart of it anymore.

So i found this brand which don't test on animals.

Also they don't contain any of the nasty chemicals which they put in the 'main stream' hair dyes.

I'm only 40 and have been dying my hair for years. And like any hair dye the dye does wash out, even with using a permanent dye.

I only use it to mainly dye my roots, for me the box of dye (containing two bottles) lasts me a month or two as i only mix up a little at time for what i need it for.

My hair feels good using this product. I did use Clairol before and i noticed how my head felt itchy and feel an irritation. After years of dying it and using high street permanent...
