L'Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Masque Pre-Shampoo Treatment, 3 Mar. 2016
This clay masque, pre-shampoo treatment for oily roots, comes in a tub. The instructions are beneath the label on the lid and suggests you massage the clay into your roots while your hair is dry and, once applied, leave it for five minutes. It has a fairly strong smell (although not unpleasant), is green and rather odd to touch – a little like soft putty. This really did lift my roots and make my hair feel super clean and oil free. I do need to wash my hair daily as it can look a little lank or oily if not. However, having tried this, my hair looked fresh and clean even at the end of the day. I would be interested to try this with the shampoo and conditioner as I was impressed by the product.

Unusual product, lovely fragrance, massage in to dry hair and rinse out as a pre-shampoo treatment., 10 Mar. 2016

This is a really unusual product which I wish I'd had as a teenager and young woman, when my fine hair seemed permanently oily within a day of washing. I still have oily roots, though nowhere near as bad. I was interested to see if this clay masque got them any cleaner than my usual method, which is to apply the shampoo to damp hair at the roots and work it down the lengths of the hair.

On application it didn't feel at all like I expected, no grit - this is a smooth clay, with a very pleasant fragrance. Applying it to dry hair felt a little odd. If you are a quick hairwash in the shower in the morning type of person, set aside a separate session to use this. I try not to tangle my hair too much so deeply massaging it in was a challenge. Covering the scalp was a bit of a vague instruction - with a thick or thin layer? How much would I need for a good effect?

Rinsing it out was fairly straightforward, following this, I used my favourite discount store coconut...

Not so extraordinary masque, 10 Mar. 2016

L'Oreal Paris Elvive brand doesn’t normally do much for my hair, their products work fine for me overall but tend to leave my hair looking dull, and unfortunately the L'Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Re-Balancing range hasn’t bumped this trend.

L'Oreal Paris Elvive Extraordinary Clay Re-Balancing range are silicone-free which is a plus: silicones coat the hair to give shine to hide damage caused by regular washing, the problem is that this is a band-aid and long-term causes more harm by preventing moisture getting to the hair shaft. The range also uses three refined clays to help re-balance hair, removing oil from roots while maintaining hydration in the ends of the hair - I have been able to use the shampoo, conditioner, and pre-shampoo treatment. I have used each product separately, the shampoo and conditioner work best when used together, the pre-shampoo treatment works well with this range and other products.
