Barely black, 10 Dec. 2015

This mascara has been around for a long time - I remember the pink and green tube being something of a beauty icon when I was at school. However, that was years ago and make-up has moved on a lot since then, and I am not sure that this mascara is competitive any longer.

There are things I like about the mascara: it comes in a short, compact tube, and it has a slim brush/wand that makes it very easy to apply without getting mascara on your face or eyelids. It also has quite a good separating effect and seems to define individual lashes rather than clumping.

However, this mascara is supposed to give huge lashes and make them look blackest black, whereas for me the mascara doesn't have anywhere near the impact you would expect. It gives quite a soft, natural look without much intensity or drama, and my lashes really didn't look as long or dark as they do with other mascaras. Good value all round mascara., 14 Dec. 2015

Unlike some reviewers, I can't recall any hype about this product, so can't comment on how long it has been around personally, but the packaging reminds me of a throwback to the 80's with it's neon green and pink colouring... I can imagine it may have been something I once had in my make up bag, but have long since forgotten, but it is fun and quirky and easy to spot in your bag!The brush is a classic style and separates the lashes well when you apply it and it goes on smoothly with little mess or clumping.Personally, I don't feel my lashes appeared to increase in size at all, but the "blackest black" colour did make them stand out well. I am not sure if it really is the "blackest black" however, as I have had other mascara's that look just as black and don't make my eyes look any different to this, so on that point, I think it is exaggerated, but, that said, it is a good all round mascara, that is reasonable value for money.

A subtle natural coat that seperates your lashes but doesn't add much length or volume, 14 Dec. 2015

The design of the tube is a little misleading as this is claimed to be the "Great Lash" with "Big" emblazoned upon the bottom of the tube. I didn't really find it delivered what you'd expect from the name but I was still pleasantly impressed by the results.

Opening the tube (very difficult to get the protective clear plastic film off by the way) I found that the brush was a fairly standard traditional spiral bristle brush (the old fashioned kind). The mascara itself doesn't clump or gather excessively in the brush - in fact looking at the brush, if you didn't see there was a little on at the tip of the brush, you'd think that the brush didn't even have any product on it at all - the bottle seems to be fairly good at preventing the brush from getting clumped.

Depending on your preference this could be a good thing or a bad thing. Unlike a lot of the other mascaras Maybelline offers in their range, this one is actually ideal for doing the most...
