Mitchells Wool Fat Ceramic Dish and Shaving Soap is available in Soaps
Mitchells Wool Fat Shaving Soap is still made in Bradford, England to a traditional recipe that was invented by Fred Mitchell in 1893. Many wet shaving purists claim that Mitchells Wool Fat Shaving Soap is the very best around, in our opinion it's certainly one of the very best ever. What makes this shaving soap so special is the addition of natural lanolin which is a wonderful moisturiser and tallow which provides your razor blade with cushion and glide. Natural lanolin and tallow are what gives this famous shaving soap its lovely smooth action. The scent is both manly and subtle. An all time favourite with wet shavers throughout the world. The traditional ceramic lathering up bowl is practical and looks great in the bathroom, once you've got the bowl all you need thereafter is to buy Mitchells Wool Fat Shaving Soap refills. Particularly suitable for those with sensitive skin, Mitchells Wool Fat Shaving Soap is bio-degradable and has not been tested on animals.

Since this stuff seems to have almost legendary status among so many wet shavers, I decided I would give it a go.
I did this with a LITTLE bit of trepidation, because the same forums that rave about it are also full of comments about how hard it can be to get a usable lather from it. There's a youtube video demonstrating 7 methods to try to make it lather properly, for goodness sake! How hard was it going to be? I didn't fancy spending 20 minutes every day trying to get usable suds, however soothing the soap was!
So, for the nervous, here's what happened.
I got the package in the morning post, just as I was starting to get ready for a shave. I opened the package. I swirled my wet brush around on the soap for a few seconds, then started lathering it on my face. And almost instantly I had as rich and creamy a lather as I've ever had from a Taylors or Trumper product. Great!
Maybe some people just have exceptionally hard water, but I had...

As a wet shaver for over 10 years, I been looking for a new shaving soap or cream just to change things up.
I've read reviews on this product and was aware of how great/famous a lather and shave you get with this product. I was also aware that it could be hard work to build up a lather with this soap. This is your shavers' soap.
However no problems at all. I applied the same technique as with my other shaving soaps. The main difference is to load a wet (not water loaded) brush with more product - by swirling the brush (lightly) in the soap surface for at least 30 secs and then build lather on the face. Some shavers prefer bowl lathering which is good too, but face lathering with this soap is a guarantee to get lather. The lather is slick (in my opinion) and the razor runs smooth throughout the shave. This is a good lather and not gunky/heavy on your razor either.
The scent is a decent enough (smells more like soap than anything special) but its not a strong lingering...

I had bought some of this excelent soap several years ago from the Natural History Museum shop but when it eventually ran out, over six months later, I could not find a local stockist. I was delighted when I found it on Amazon and did not hesitate in placing an order.
It lathers beautifully to a rich cream which softens and lubricates the beard very well. The term 'wool fat' is in fact erroneous as it refers to lanolin which is a wax extracted from sheep's wool and used extensively in skin care products. It's used particularly in baby cream so if it's good for a baby's delicate bottom it must be good for your face :)
Seriously I have not come across a better shaving soap. It's well worth the money but you are paying the extra for the ceramic pot so if you have a suitable shaving bowl then go for
