This expensive, lightweight, fragrance-free, ‘City Skin Age Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50’ from Murad has proven mineral sunscreens of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide and is best for normal, combination or slightly dry skin, including sensitive. Drier skins will not find this rich enough on its own, but it could be tried over a rich serum or oil, but sometimes this can cause mineral sunscreens to separate and flake on the skin. It comes in an opaque bottle with a needle-nose dispenser, which I like, making it easy to use.

Better still, it has a lovely texture and contains soothing oat kernel extract, with plenty of antioxidants like vitamins C, E, and Retinyl Palmitate to help defend and protect the skin. Mineral sunscreens get some bad press because they can leave a very unflattering white cast on the skin, but Murad has offset this by adding a very nice, subtle peach tint, which also helps to enliven the skin. Overpriced nonsense, 11 July 2017

At its bare bones, this is a very small bottle (see pictures for scale) bottle of high factor SPF 50 sun cream. The price, currently £45, is absolute nonsense when compared to products that provide equivalent levels of protection for much less than £90/100ml. In order to put on a safe amount to cover face, neck and limbs you are probably averaging around £10 per application.

This is justified in the eyes of the marketing department by protecting against "pollution", "blue light from phone screens" and "infrared [heat] energy from microwaves". I suspect there is little evidence that these elements are genuine threats and that these claims are largely just branding. Barclays customers might benefit from 13% cashback on products from Murad.

Positive points are that this is indeed a non greasy and easily absorbed suncream with a high SPF. But there are so many other more reasonably priced products that do this! A cursory search turned up...
