Latin Name: Myroxylon pereirae?

The essential oil is extracted through the process of steam distillation. It has a distint aroma being fresh, sweet, earthy and balsamic. In appearance it is brown in colour. The tree from which it is derived from is a tropical one with a straight and smooth trunk with pretty and eye-catching foliage along with beautiful and highly fragrant flowers. The essential oil is obtained from the resin found in the trunk, it is extracted by making a v-shaped incision in the bark, the resin then oozes out and when exposed to the air it hardens and can then be removed by scraping it off. Peru Balsam has been used for many centuries for many skin disorders as a natural treatment.

Please note that pure Peru balsam is a solid resin and the essential oil is a one third dilution in black sesame oil.?

It is known to be useful in treatment of rheumatism and respiratory problems when used in massage. It is a natural antiseptic as well as a fungicide and has been used in the past for stopping bleeding in wounds and to promote the healing of the skin. It is often used as a fixative and and as a fragrance in perfumes, soaps, creams, lotions, balms and household detergents.
