First I must say that the claim of faster trimming is true; it certainly cuts through my beard quicker than the ceramic bladed trimmer that this replaces. How much faster is down to the individual I think; if you spend time edging and detailing I doubt it would make too much difference but if you just want the overall length trimmed it would certainly speed things up.
The other main feature, the beard length selector, also works very well. There is a knurled metal wheel with a good positive click that has 0.5mm increments below 5mm then 1mm increments all the way up to 10mm. A word of caution though - I set it to the number I thought - 2mm - as I imagined that this would correspond to the '2' on my old trimmer setting and it didn't, it was quite a bit shorter! I've since changed it to 3.5mm and that's working for me. I tried a similar type of trimmer a few years ago and the angle you held it at altered the length which totally negated the length setting so I stopped using...

I have been an advocate of Philips products for many years now and whilst they often cost more than competitor's products, the quality shows through. This item is priced at £65.00 as at the 24th December 2015 and I believe that it is worth every penny, yes there are many products whch are cheaper and yes they will all trim beards (or moustache, hair line, nape of neck and eyebrows for me) but in 5 years time will they still be functioning? Certainly the Wahl beard trimmer which I tried I was very satisfied with initially, but after 6 months, the battery barely holds its charge for my limited hair growth and would not cope with a beard.
