Good Shaver But The SmartClean Function Is Overrated, 8 Oct. 2014

First impressions of this shaver are that it looks smart, and fairly impressive with a fancy new 'SmartClean' function included on the stand. It takes up more space than previous models, when positioned in the stand, but it doesn't look out of place. The shaver is light and fits comfortably into the hand, and is surprisingly quiet when in use.

The shaver gives a good close shave which is apparently due to the 8x directional heads and V-track precision blades. The blades are designed to prevent the shaver from tugging at hairs, by lifting them upwards for cutting. In comparison to a previous model, the Philips SensoTouch 3D, the shave was possibly a fraction closer. That may simply have been due to the blades being newer, however. Philips have kept with the Aquatec seal to allow the user to shave wet or dry which is a very useful function.

Not convinced, not convinced at all, 11 Mar. 2015

I have been using Philishave systems for many years now and I am a real fan of them. I have always found them to give me a close comfortable shave despite of my sensitive skin. I was very excited about receiving this shaver, but I am afraid to say, I am disappointed. It looks nice enough, although I have to say it is very light and feels a bit flimsy compared to previous models.I have one minor issue and 2 big issues with it - the minor issue is that the beard trimmer is no longer part of the unit but a separate piece (annoying and inconvenient but not a deal breaker).My major issues: (1) it simply does not shave anywhere near as thoroughly as its predecessors and leaves whiskers especially on the neck; and (2) the cleaning station leaves the shaver wet - even after 24 hours the liquid remains on/in the razor making it a sticky experience.Really disappointed - really tempted to revert to my Sensotouch 3D

Excellent quality but a high price, 4 Oct. 2014

This rotary electric shaver has a premium look and feel. The box is substantial and contains the main handle unit, the cleaning/charging base unit, a hard case for the shaver, a standard charging cable, and a trimmer attachment and the main rotary shaver attachment.

The main handle unit is very comfortable to hold, and has a charge level indicator that lights up when you switch it on or off. Changing between the main shaving head and the trimmer is simply a case of unclipping one and putting the other on which takes a couple of seconds.

The quality of the shave is better than previous electric shavers I have used. It is very comfortable in use (far more comfortable than my foil shaver) and is also very quiet in use. It took me a little bit of time to get used to the best way to use it, but I now find after a couple of weeks that I can get good results quite quickly. It doesn't irritate my skin either.
