A lot get said about badger hair brushes being the best, especially if it's the softer badger neck hair.For who though? the purpose of a shaving brush is to soften the bristles by applying the wet soap. to do this well it should be able to lift the hair and apply the moisturising soap right into the underside of the hair root. If you have soft stubble then badger hair will be fine for you. If you have coarser hair though, badger just isn't going to get the job done, it's too soft to compete with your tougher bristles.This is were the tougher boar hair helps to stiffen the brush overall and work a good lather right into the root of tougher hair. I find this mix is just right for me and does a great job.If you have stubble like wire wool then you may need a pure boar hair brush to get the job done. If the badger hair crowd look down on your 'lower quality' brush it's probably because they have the stubble of a 16 year old :-)

Excellent value for money, 14 July 2012

This is not my regular shaving brush.My first choice is an Edwin Jagger super badger brush which is excellent but I wanted a brush with a little more backbone so I could use Mitchells woolfat/Kent soap effectively.

This brush didnt dissapoint.Mitchells/Kent is supposedly very difficult to lather but this Vulfix made short work and did an excellent job of it.Perhaps our soft Welsh water helped but the brush is very effective and produced plenty of lather.

When it arrived I shampoo'd it a couple of times,hand lathered it up and left it to soak in the lather for about 8-9 hours and then rinsed it out.This got rid of the "wet dog" smell.

Being mainly boar bristle it will get softer and better with use ( Ive used it a couple of dozen times now and its very soft and nicely bloomed)

Just one more point...when researching this brush I was finding a lot of people buying it for the handle and then re-knotting it with a silvertip quality...

This item arrived very quickly and was as described by the seller.I have been using the brush for a week now and thought I would post a brief review, I found the brush to be a little cracker it's not too big and makes great lather when used with a shaving bowl or even if you just use the palm of your hand. I have used several brushes over the 30 plus years I have been shaving from the cheap natural bristle, to mixed badger/boar to the top of the range expensive black badger hair, and this Grosvenor 404 is just as good as the expensive ones for me, It's a good quality brush, not to soft but not too firm and scratchy on the face, and it is a great price,If the brush develops a fault or major hair loss I will update this review and let you know.Highly recomended. I liked it so much I purchased another as a spare.
