Botanical Name: Azadirachta indica Plant Part: Seeds Extraction Method: Cold Pressing of the seeds Origin: India Neem is an evergreen of the tropics and sub-tropics. It belongs to the family Meliaccae and is a cousin of the Chinaberry. With an extensive and deep root system, the hardy Neem can grow luxuriantly even in marginal and leached soils, and thrives up to an elevation of 1500m. The Neem flowers are prolific between February and May. The honey-scented white flowers, found in clusters, are a good source of nectar for bees. Neem fruits are green drupes that turn golden yellow on ripening in the months of June, July and August, in India. The kernels have about 45% oil. The termite resistant Neem timber is used as a building material, and in making furniture and farm implements. The bark yields tannin and gum. The amber hued gum is used as a dye in textiles and in traditional medicines. Colour: Brown Common Uses: Scientific research has confirmed that Neem seed oil is non-toxic to mammals and may be very effective antiseptic, antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, dermatological and dental agent. It is also widely hailed as a natural insect repellant. This oil has been used for centuries in traditional Indian medicine to aid in the healing of topical skin disorders such as eczema, psoriasis, rashes, burns and acne. Consistency: Viscous /very thick solid until gently warmed Note: Base Strength of Aroma: Medium Blends well with: Literature on the blending of Neem oil is difficult to acquire. Nonetheless, there are vague references to it blending well with Lavender (All), Clarysage, Rosemary (All), Pine (All), Cananga, Geranium (All), Marjoram (All), and spice oils - especially clove and nutmeg. Aromatic Scent:Neem oil has a rich, earthy, green musty smell.

Excellent organic insecticide and arachnide/mite killer!, 15 Dec. 2011
with a tablespoon of it and half a tablespoon of liquid soap per pint in a spray kills plant mites and bad insects (it doesn't happen instantly, but it slowly degrades them within a couple of weeks). Doesn't harm any plants, even my orchids and I don't worry about my guinea pigs ingesting or smelling any of it; especially as I have a lot of the plants I spray in the kitchen, since the oil is organic it doesn't bother I spray near food. And comes out a lot cheaper and more effective than a lot of insecticides, just not that instant, but healthier.
