High tech trimmer, 17 Aug. 2014

This solid-feeling trimmer packs in a few high tech features to raise it above the standard. The bright LED display and touch controls make it feel rather high tech, with a huge range of lengths ranging from 0.4mm for a shadow look, right up to long full beard settings. The control this gives makes a stubble look very easy, as well as full beards.

It gives good results, trimming beards and stubble accurately and quickly, and is very comfortable on the skin to use. It's also nicely designed and easy to hold.

The USB charging function is useful, since it means it can be charged from any USB socket. It's not the first thing you'd associate with connecting by USB, but why not? It's a universal power source and the average home must be full of USB sockets.

It's a fairly heavy and noisy unit, and feels like it's well built. A major drawback is that it cannot be exposed to water, so cannot be rinsed under the tap like some other models. It comes...

Overall, I`m impressed. This is a nice weight and size, powerful, and has a massive range of trimming height options, that are adjusted digitally and fun to play with! Removing the guard means I can use it when I don`t want to be clean-shaven but am getting too grungy for work, and can be more respectable in a matter of minutes. Charge is quick, and lasts ages, and the only complaint is I have to be careful not to "nick" just below my nose - twice I`ve managed to draw blood; that`s more of a idiosyncracy on my part though; the trimmer`s very good.

I had high hopes for this gadget. Remington promises an easy way to adjust the cutting length using the touch-screen. However, this is where this device fails - and it fails miserably.

The one thing that you want from a beard trimmer is an easy and reliable way to set the length of the trimming blades, but the touch-screen just does not work. The Remington MB4560 beard trimmer is supposed to offer "175 length settings with intricate 0.1 mm increases" - but this is impossible to achieve. As some other reviewers have pointed out, the touch-screen is either too sensitive, or not responsive at all, so adjusting the trimmer to your desired length takes way longer than it should.

This could all be forgiven if the trimmer gave a nice and even trim. Unfortunately, it does not lift the hairs properly and it does not cut evenly. It's messy and difficult to clean as loose hairs get stuck between the moving comb and the device. It can't be rinsed or exposed to water,...
