Superb quality for the price and a very good seller, 1 Sept. 2014

I've now used this a fair few times both with heavy stubble and with just a day's growth and using a variety of shaving soaps and shaving creams. It's a good quality brush - superb for the price - from Semogue a Portugese manufacturer about whose products I'd heard good things. It's made of boar which causes some people to downgrade it but in fact it's possible to get a badger brush that doesn't perform nearly as well as this and pay an awful lot more. Believe me I know because I've done it. For me this one is perfect just the right blend of stiffness and softness. It's very easy to work up a good lather which the brush holds well. By way of an experiment I did one shave with just wetting the brush and then proceeding direct to making the lather. Still very satisfactory results which tells you a lot about the quality of this brush. It's a good idea to soak it hot water for a few minutes but you don't need to - really that is impressive. The loft is pretty well the ideal for me. I like...

Another great brush from Semogue, 21 Nov. 2014
Another great brush from Semogue. This one is great for face lathering (which I prefer) because it has a lot of backbone. Once it is broken in and the hairs split, it is also very soft. However, be aware that it does take time to break in. It took me three weeks of daily shaves and initially I almost gave up because of the poor quality lather I was getting, But I persevered and now I am rewarded with rich lather from soap or cream. It is on the small side, which makes it easy to maneuver around your face, but if you are used to something like an Omega 49, this little Semogue may disappoint you. For me it is just perfect. No smell either when it was new and it has not shed a single hair in over a month's use. And the acrylic handle is just brilliant!

but thought I deserved better! Even if badgers are considered vermin in China ..., 16 Mar. 2015
Up to now I used a cheap synthetic brush - adequate, but thought I deserved better! Even if badgers are considered vermin in China I did not want a dead one in my bathroom, and my other half would certainly not have approved, so, not forgetting the price difference either, I bought this boar bristle, happily avoiding buying yet another article from China in the process! I can't compare it to badger, but I think it is great so far; a huge improvement on synthetic for a modest extra cost, and far more attractive. I also have both a cheap soap and a DR Harris. Even the cheap soap works much better with this brush. Bargain. All I need now is a stand to hang the brush....?
