  • The healing qualities of Shea butter are due to the presence of several fatty acids and plant sterols, namely oleic, stearic, palmitic and linolenic acids. These oil-soluble components are nonsaponifiable, meaning they do not undergo saponification, or convert to soap, when introduced to an alkali.
  • Shea butter contains several derivatives of cinnamic acid, a compound common to cinnamon and balsam trees. Moisturising chapped lips and flaky skin including elbows and knees.
  • Shea butter contains vitamins A and E, as well as catechins, plant antioxidants also found in green tea. While it is unclear how well vitamins A and E in raw Shea butter are absorbed, there is evidence to suggest that cinnamic acid esters in Shea fat help to prevent skin damage from ultraviolet radiation. Relieving sunburn, rashes, eczema and dermatitis.
  • Shea butter possesses a significantly greater nonsaponifiable fraction than most other nut oils and fats, which lends the substance greater healing potential for the skin. Soothing of wrinkles, chapped skin, razor bumps or other skin irritations.

I have only been using this Shea butter for about 1 week but I can already see the benefits. My skin feels softer, stays moisturised and looks slightly more even and glowly already. I just tried it in my hair too & my hair (Afro hair) seems to love it- I was able to maintain moisture in my low porosity hair. I can't wait to see the results in a few months time. I will definitely be re-ordering! I do plan to whip it up into a butter for an easier application though as it obviously comes in the raw form (big hard chunks) so you do have to almost crush it down in your palm to soften and apply it to your skin- which is a little time consuming when your in a rush lol. It comes in a big re sealable bag which I saw somebody complain about in another review- I understand why this could be a con for some but it doesn't really bother me. I will just buy some containers to store it in when I whip it.

It is very moisturising and very malleable. The produce itself comes in chunks, but they weren't uniform in colour; some chunks were off-white/ivory others were a slight grey tinge. I don't know if this is normal for unrefined shea butter, but I think it is something worth noting. It arrived is a plastic re-sealable bag, I would have preferred it to have been in some sought of container to make storage easier. Delivery was very quick.
