I wanted to like this, a lot. But then I suppose that's true most times you spend money on something.
I found that it does not work as a nail shiner. To produce a 'shine', you must press the abrasive surface - and it is quite abrasive - very firmly against your nail and rub pretty hard. I felt that it caused damage to my nails to get a shine out of this. Most nail buffers and shiners are made of a much finer grained material, but the etching on the glass of this shiner is considerably more appropriate for nail filing. Except that it isn't, because it's also too rough for this purpose - it creates that nasty situation where it files away nail, but so poorly that you're left with semi-attached bits of nail bent underneath the nail and around the top. I had to go over it with a glass nail file to fix the mess. This isn't like your standard nail file or shiner, which is 'grained', and has an actual, er, 'grainy' surface.
