When I started my studies in art I used these blades, and twenty-five years later I still do. Swann-Morton blades come in a variety of shapes, but the 10a is the perfect mix of pointedness and blade length for most design and craft related uses. The number 10 blade is slightly curved and the number 11 is a far narrower blade. Both others will get the job done but the extra width of the 10a allows it more of a 'spring' or flexibility, and the more you use the blade the better control you an get with. Especially when cutting precise curves or carving detail. I use them with a number 3 handle and they make the most useful knife for crafting you could ever own. In my creative endeavors I use the knife for everything from getting the perfect point on pencils to carving detail into epoxy putty (Milliput) sculptures. Ideal for papercutting projects, the point is fine enough to allow precision detail but big enough not to snap off under a little gentle pressure. They can however snap off...
