Jumbo Curls for Girls, 22 Sept. 2015

The Toni & Guy Jumbo Tong Styler is a curling tong. Here's what I thought.

^^ I chose this because I have recently had my hair cut into a long bob (short at the back and long at the sides), and the large 38mm barrel is ideal for creating volume and curling my hair underneath and around the sides.

^^ I find it heats up in around a minute, not instantly but it's no big deal either. I can wait a minute.

^^ I usually heat my hair up to around 180 C, so the fact that this goes up to a max of 200 is great for me. I wouldn't want anything higher. I mean, when I read that back it does make me wonder about how much the heat could be damaging my hair, but at the same time I am pretty keen to counteract any harsh treatment by using heat styling protectors and the right shampoo and conditioners.

Great for creating volume and natural waves, not for creating curls!, 7 Nov. 2015

Firstly this tong styler is not for creating curls. The barrel is large, it's more for creating volume and a slight wave. My daughter has long, very straight hair so I thought she would be the perfect guinea pig. As you can see in the photos, I curled some of hair and left the rest of it straight so that you can compare. I then ran my fingers through her hair to give a wavy effect, which can be seen in the second photo.I am definitely going to use this styler in my hair when I go out, as hair looks much more volumised and naturally styled.

Reasonably priced tongs Giving a gentle wave, 30 Sept. 2015

I've always been slightly disappointed with curling tongs, so maybe I'm not the best person to review them, although I had high hopes for 200 degrees of tourmaline coated action. I find with my hair that they don't do anything I can't do with my trusty ghd styler (in terms of loose waves) and if I want a real curl that lasts, the only thing that works for me is heated rollers (I have a set that's over 10 years old and still going strong!)

These tongs are reasonably priced (at least at the Amazon savings price) they did heat up quickly, and the burn on my ear testifies to the fact that they do get hot! There is a heat setting from 5- 25 although I always go for the hottest possible because why wouldn't you? I did like that the tongs had an attached stand so you don't burn your table, and that there was an on/off switch and light ( I nearly burnt down my house with the same brand of wave styles as I thought I had turned them off but had actually just locked themselves!
