What a shaver!, 30 May 2009

I am a black man, and have owned a scherna shaver for a few years now, and thought it gave a good close shave, but it broke down recently, and I was stuck without a beard trimmer, enter Wahl Afro What A Shaver!

I live outside london where there are no afro barbers around, so it was either a weekly trip to london, or buy a trimmer.

I was alomost ready to buy another scherna, but luckily came across this shaver, bear in mind there is a non rechargeable battery alternative.

When I read previous reviews that said it was the closest thing to a razor shave, I was intrigued, but it really does shave VERY CLOSE. If you are looking for the stubble look, this is not for you. If you like your clean shaven look, then this is definitely the product for you.

It takes a 12 hour charge for the FIRST TIME ONLY. Then it is recommended you let it run until the blades stop, then give it a NORMAL charge.

The best shaver for a black man, 5 Mar. 2008

This shaver has changed my face and my confidence, i am able to wlak with confidence knowing that my razor bumps have disappeared.I used to clean shave with a razor for the past 4 years now i have been using this for three weeks and they have a disappeared, i dont even used bump stopper-2 anymore.Important to clean after each use, and oil once per month.Worth the money, buy buy buy!!!

Not Perfect, but the Best Option in a Limited Market, 25 May 2014

Like many black men I've struggled with razor bumps since I started shaving as a teenager.

This product greatly reduces the chances of getting razor bumps by shaving very close but not so close that your hair immediately pushes back into your skin when it grows back out. I've tried various shavers and this is without a doubt the most effective one.

There are some cons though. Maybe it's because this is a niche market with very few competitors but this product suffers from poor build quality. The rechargeable battery has a very short shelf life (I generally find they become useless after about a year). The metal the blades are constructed from aren't stainless either - so if you prefer to shave in the bathroom you will need to make sure you don't leave your shaver there because the steam from your shower will cause it to gradually rust over time. You will also need to oil the blades once a week to keep them sharp, as they will blunt quite quickly if you don't...
